Started by King Edward I in 1277, this concentrically planned castle is dominated by a distinctive diamond-shaped inner ward. The moat was linked to a deep-water canal, allowing Edward's ships to sail right up to the castle.

10 acre arboretum with large numbers of rhododendrons, hollys and acers that give the garden interest all year. On some Sundays there is a miniature railway running through the woods and gardens.
